Tips for a Lovely Lawn

Lawns should be a space for you. They add to the presentation at the front of a house, and at the back they allow a bit of peaceful solitude to enjoy away from the prying eyes of the world. Keeping your lawn looking its best can seem difficult at times, especially with children and pets around, but if you know how to care for it then you’ll find it’s not all that much work after all.

Knowing what’s best can be difficult at times. There are a couple of messages that might seem conflicting, but which are both relevant to maintaining nice turf. Firstly when the grass is growing make sure to cut regularly. This should probably happen every week in spring and summer. But you also need to make sure you don’t cut too short. somewhere between three and four centimetres is perfection, but much shorter and you’ll find you might accidentally kill off the grass. Leave even more length for bits of the garden that don’t get sun.

Lawn feed is a good idea if you want a good verdant patch of grass. It’s important that you always follow the instructions with any feed, and don’t apply too much at any one time. A good way of making sure the ground gets a gradual dose of goodness is to buy slow release granules. This also means less work for you, which is no bad thing.

Having some weed killer on hand is a good idea as well. You’ll find that no matter how hard you strive some of those critters pop up, and then you’ve got to eradicate them quickly or else face the consequences of them seeding. Picking at weeds leaves the root, which means you’ve only put off the problem.

Finally, despite your efforts you might find the odd bare patch appearing. It’s a routine part of maintenance to have to reseed a little each year. Of course if you’re finding large areas are beyond saving, then you could consider doing the turf again too.

Sit out in your garden without damaging your lawn with garden decking.
