Every homeowner knows that eventually they end up needing more storage. One of the biggest areas they need storage generally revolves around their yards. Steel storage buildings and sheds are a great addition to any homeowners property. They give ample storage for gardening tools and equipment as well as storing other items they may not want to have visible in their yards. There are a wide variety of different types of sheds so it is important that you know what your needs are before you purchase one.
Steel sheds are extremely popular because they are not only extremely sturdy but they are also a lot more cost effective. These types of sheds are also very easy to paint should you want to change the color to perhaps match the color of your home. They also stand up well against high winds.
When you have decided where you want your shed located you will need to figure out how much space you want for it to take up. You will need to have some good measurements to take with you when you finally go out to purchase it. Thing to note here is that most of these kits do not come with floors so you will have to make your own foundation for it to be installed on.
You will need to dig yourself a hole that is at least 6 inches deep and it should be several inches wider as well as longer than the shed itself. Once you have done this, you will need to fill the hole with about four inches of gravel that is about pea sized. Take two by fours and build your concrete forms around the area of where the shed will stand.
Once you have done this make sure to carefully follow the mixing instructions on the concrete bag and then pour four inches of this over the gravel. After you have poured the concrete you can smooth it with some wood. The concrete will need to set for at least a week prior to you being able to put your steel shed on it.
After the concrete is dry you can begin to construct your shed. You need to first lay out the floor tracks and put them together but do not put them on the concrete yet. You will need to fasten the walls together with the fasteners that come with the kit, then you can put the floor tracks down and connect the walls through the holes that are already drilled.
Next is the roof panels which you should lay out and hook together as well, these will be attached to the roof framing members. Now screw the roof panels to the walls. You can now attach the door by sliding it into place and screw the screws into the jamb to attach it to the wall frame.
After this is completed it is a good idea to take lag bolts and make sure they are anchored at all of the sheds corners so that the building will be held in place and ensure you that it will be sturdy under most conditions.
